At South County Orthopedics we want to ensure that you are well-prepared for your surgery and that the process from scheduling through post-operative care is as smooth as possible. To assist in our goal we have identified some guidelines that will allow you to move efficiently through our system and help you know what to expect. All surgeries are performed at South County Hospital, 100 Kenyon Avenue, Wakefield, RI 02879: (401) 782-8020. Please arrive at the main hospital entrance. Once you and your doctor have decided that you will have surgery we will schedule a surgery date for you. The actual time of the surgery will be confirmed with you by South County Hospital staff just prior to that date. Reason being, the actual schedule of surgeries on any given day can be impacted by emergencies and cancellations. Therefore you may not get the actual time of surgery until the day before. For some patients, Patient Admission Testing (PAT) may be required. Your pre-admission testing will be determined by your Surgeon and the Anesthesiologist, based on a review of your medical and surgical history. PAT may include one or more tests such as: Blood / Lab Work (walk in) SCH has 4 locations for lab work: Diagnostic Imaging (walk in) EKG (by appointment only) Please note that Lab Work and X-rays are available to you on a walk-in basis. EKG's require an appointment. If pre-admission testing is required of you, a registered nurse from South County Hospital will call you to schedule a visit, and ask about your medical and surgical history, medications you are taking, any allergies you may have, and will tell you what to expect on the day of your procedure. If you have any questions, call South County Hospital's pre-admission testing department at 401.782.8020, x1755 (8am - 3:30pm) You should have nothing to eat or drink after midnight, the night before your surgery. If you use an inhaler, please bring it with you. Avoid smoking, especially 48 hours before your surgery. Wear loose fitting, comfortable clothing that opens in the front and comfortable yet sturdy walking shoes. It is important for you to talk with your doctor about your activity. Rehabilitation is necessary to help you reach your highest level of mobility and function. The most important aspect of rehabilitation at this point is to strengthen the muscles surrounding your affected joint. These exercises help improve your blood circulation as well.
